We provide a set of general tools for studying the alignments of dark matter halos and galaxies with respect to the large scale structure. The statistics of the positioning of these objects is represented by a Probability Distribution Function (PDF) of their Euler angles. The PDF corresponding to halos located in the shells of the cosmic voids is inferred from previous results. This PDF is used to show how to recover the outcomes found for the alignments of the axes of these halos in…

The geometry of the filamentary environment of galaxy clusters

We construct a filament catalogue using an extension of the halo-based filament finder of Zhang et al. (2009), in a 250 Mpc h−1 side N-body simulation, and study the properties of filaments ending

The shape of dark matter haloes in the Aquarius simulations: evolution and memory

We use the high resolution cosmological N-body simulations from the Aquarius project to investigate in detail the mechanisms that determine the shape of Milky Way-type dark matter haloes. We find

Quantifying the coherent outflows of galaxies around voids in the SDSS DR7

We report the detection, with a high level of confidence, of coherent outflows around voids found in the seventh data release of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS DR7). In particular, we developed a

The bulge contribution to the inner density profile of a galaxy is well traced by the bulge’s NIR surface brightness profile. We map the surface brightness profiles of bulges using HST/NICMOS
