  • Abstract The influence of the interstitial matrix on the movement of large molecules between plasma and lymph has been investigated. It is first shown that a single-compartment analysis of plasma-lymph transport cannot explain the in vivo data of Garlick and Renkin ( Amer. J. Physiol. 219, 1595–1605, 1970). Three physical properties of the interstitial matrix are then included in the analysis in stages and the results compared to the same data at each stage.
