Vitiligo is an acquired achromia of the skin, the etiology of which is obscure, although a number of suggestions have been advanced to account for it (1, 2, 3, 4). The essential lesion is a localized defect in melanogenesis, and there have been a number of studies in recent years directed towards examining the histopathology of the basal melanocytes in the affected areas of skin (5, 6).
