In this paper we consider an ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) switching element with output queueing. One separate infinite-capacity output buffer is used for each possible destination (output). The cell arrival processes on the inlets of the switching element are of a bursty nature. Specifically, geometrically distributed on/off-periods are assumed to describe this burstiness.
