By chance I recently observed that charcoal, when added to a digesting fluid of trypsin and casein, produces a very marked diminution of the tryptic effect. There can hardly be any doubt that this depends upon the trypsin being taken up by the charcoal, thus being prevented from acting upon casein. It is a well known fact that charcoal readily condenses gases on its surface, and likewise takes up colouring matters from solutions. That other solid substances and especially hydrogels, have got…

Observations on Leucoprotease and “Anti-Leucoprotease”

According to Kossel (1888) Fritz Miiller discovered that phthisical sputum digests fibrin and coagulated albumen in weakly alkaline media, but the fact that antiseptic pus digests proteins seems to

THE INACTIVATION OF TRYPSIN : IV. THE ADSORPTION OF TRYPSIN BY CHARCOAL.

Charcoal removes trypsin from solution and the reaction is not analogous either to the reaction betweentrypsin and the inhibiting substance of serum or to the Reaction between solid protein and either pepsin orTrypsin.

Solid saccharase preparations

2 methods for the preparation of solid invertase are described, which are both suitable for practical purposes and also for industrial requirements, and is extremely stable.
