Abstract We describe a protocol for Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated transformation of hybrid cottonwoods (Populus sections Tacamahaca Spach. and Aigeiros Duby). The protocol has allowed routine transformation of several economically important cottonwood hybrids (Populus trichocarpa Torr. & Gray×P. deltoides Bartr. ex.
