An action principle is presented for Vasiliev's Bosonic higher spin gauge theory in four spacetime dimensions. The action is of the form of a broken topological field theory, and arises by an extension of the MacDowell-Mansouri formulation of general relativity. In the latter theory the local degrees of freedom of general relativity arise by breaking the gauge invariance of a topological theory from $sp(4)$ to the Lorentz algebra. In Vasiliev's theory the infinite number of degrees of freedom…

4D Higher Spin Gravity with Dynamical Two-Form as a Frobenius-Chern-Simons Gauge Theory

We provide an off-shell formulation of four-dimensional higher spin gravity based on a covariant Hamiltonian action on an open nine-dimensional Poisson manifold whose boundary consists of the direct

Partially massless higher-spin theory

A bstractWe study a generalization of the D-dimensional Vasiliev theory to include a tower of partially massless fields. This theory is obtained by replacing the usual higher-spin algebra of Killing

Twistor space observables and quasi-amplitudes in 4D higher-spin gravity

A bstractVasiliev equations facilitate globally defined formulations of higher-spin gravity in various correspondence spaces associated with different phases of the theory. In the four-dimensional

Partially massless higher-spin theory II: one-loop effective actions

We continue our study of a generalization of the D-dimensional linearized Vasiliev higher-spin equations to include a tower of partially massless (PM) fields. We compute one-loop effective actions by

Topological M-theory, self-dual gravity and the Immirzi parameter

Working in the first order formalism of gravity, we propose an action that combines the self and (anti)self-dual parts of the curvature and comprises all the diffeomorphism invariant Lagrangians that

TASI Lectures on the Higher Spin - CFT duality

In these lectures we give an overview of the duality between gravitational theories of massless higher spin fields in AdS and large N vector models. We first review the original higher spin/vector

Geometry and observables in Vasiliev’s higher spin gravity

A bstractWe provide global formulations of Vasiliev’s four-dimensional minimal bosonic higher spin gravities by identifying structure groups, soldering one-forms and classical observables. In the

The higher spin/vector model duality

This paper is mainly a review of the dualities between Vasiliev’s higher spin gauge theories in AdS4 and three dimensional large N vector models, with focus on the holographic calculation of

ABJ theory in the higher spin limit

A bstractWe study the conjecture made by Chang, Minwalla, Sharma, and Yin on the duality between the N=6$$ \mathcal{N}=6 $$ Vasiliev higher spin theory on AdS4 and the N=6$$ \mathcal{N}=6 $$

An action principle for Vasiliev’s four-dimensional higher spin gravity

We provide Vasiliev’s fully nonlinear equations of motion for bosonic higher spin gauge fields in four spacetime dimensions with an action principle. We first extend Vasiliev’s original system with

Chern-Simons theory in 11 dimensions as a non-perturbative phase of M theory

A Chern-Simons theory in 11 dimensions, which is a piece of the 11 dimensional supergravity action, is considered as a quantum field theory in its own right. We conjecture that it defines a

Scalar Field in Any Dimension from the Higher Spin Gauge Theory Perspective

We formulate the equations of motion of a free scalar field in the flat and $AdS$ space of an arbitrary dimension in the form of some "higher spin" covariant constancy conditions. Klein-Gordon

Spontaneously broken de Sitter symmetry and the gravitational holonomy group

The local geometrical structure of general relativity is analyzed in detail from the standpoint of a formulation of gravity as a gauge theory of the de Sitter group SO(3,2). In order to reproduce the

BF Description of Higher-Dimensional Gravity Theories

It is well known that, in the first-order formalism, pure three-dimensional gravity is just the BF theory. Similarly, four-dimensional general relativity can be formulated as BF theory with an

Quantum gravity in terms of topological observables

We recast the action principle of four dimensional General Relativity so that it becomes amenable for perturbation theory which doesn't break general covariance. The coupling constant becomes

General relativity with a topological phase: An Action principle

An action principle is described which unifies general relativity and topological field theory. An additional degree of freedom is introduced and depending on the value it takes the theory has

A consistent interacting massless higher-spin field theory in D=2+1

Using the approach of Fradkin and Vasiliev (1987), an action is constructed in 2+1 spacetime dimensions describing interacting massless fields of all integer and half-integer spins s>or=3/2. The
