The solution of Eshelby (1957) is used to calculate the alteration of regional stress by a reservoir or other region with elastic constants, pore pressure, or temperature different than the surrounding material. As the aspect ratio of the inhomogeneity, the ratio of thickness to lateral extent, approaches zero, the local strain change approaches uniaxial plus the imposed far field (regional) strain.
