Fish easily accumulate n−3 PUFA of exogenous origin, but the underlying mechanisms are not well established in the whole animal. This study was undertaken to investigate whether this feature was physiologically associated with mitochondrial and peroxisomal capacities that differentially affect FA oxidation. For this purpose, peroxisomal FA oxidation was increased by treating rainbow trout with fenofibrate, which strongly stimulates the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-α in rodents…
Hypolipidaemic effects of fenofibrate and fasting in the herbivorous grass carp ( Ctenopharyngodon idella) fed a high-fat diet.
TLDR
The data suggest that fenofibrate and fasting regulate the lipid metabolism in grass carp through different metabolic pathways, and could be used for the study of lipid abnormalities as a herbivorous model.
Nutritional background changes the hypolipidemic effects of fenofibrate in Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus)
TLDR
This is the first study to show that body fat deposition and dietary lipid content affects PPARα activation and the hypolipidemic effects of fenofibrate in fish, and this could be due to differences in substrate availability for lipid catabolism in fish fed with different diets.
Dietary Fenofibrate Reduces Hepatic Lipid Deposition by Regulating Lipid Metabolism in Yellow Catfish Pelteobagrus fulvidraco Exposed to Waterborne Zn
TLDR
The present working hypothesis is that dietary fenofibrate addition will reduce hepatic lipids in yellow catfish exposed to waterborne Zn, and results suggest that changes at the molecular and enzymatic levels may underlie the patterns of lipid metabolism and accordingly affect hepatic fat storage.
Effects of lipid-lowering pharmaceutical clofibrate on lipid and lipoprotein metabolism of grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idellal Val.) fed with the high non-protein energy diets
TLDR
The results suggest that clofibrate has the hypolipidaemic effects and affects lipid metabolism in grass carp.
Acyl-coenzyme A oxidases 1 and 3 in brown trout (Salmo trutta f. fario): Can peroxisomal fatty acid β-oxidation be regulated by estrogen signaling?
TLDR
Changes in hormonal estrogenic stimulus may impact the mobilization of hepatic lipids to the gonads, with ultimate consequences in reproduction.

Altered hepatic metabolism of fatty acids in rats fed a hypolipidaemic drug, fenofibrate.
TLDR
The results suggest that the altered hepatic metabolism of long-chain fatty acids between oxidation and esterification caused by fenofibrate may be a factor responsible for the decreased secretion of triglyceride, hence leading to hypotriglyceridaemia in vivo.
Fenofibrate: metabolism and species differences for peroxisome proliferation in cultured hepatocytes.
TLDR
Fenofibric acid is the possible proximate peroxisome proliferator of fen ofibrate in rat hepatocytes, cultured hepatocytes reflect in vivo sensitivity to fenofibrate with respect to peroxISome proliferation, and there is some evidence that the catalytic activity of the CYP4A1 enzyme mediates, at least in part, perox isomal PCOA induction.
Docosahexaenoic and eicosapentaenoic acids are differently metabolized in rat liver during mitochondria and peroxisome proliferation.
TLDR
Under conditions of increased mitochondrial and peroxisomal proliferation by 3-thia fatty acids, a relatively higher oxidation rate of polyunsaturated n-3 fatty acids might result in a decreased hepatic level of EPA and DHA.
Mitochondrial and peroxisomal fatty acid oxidation in liver homogenates and isolated hepatocytes from control and clofibrate-treated rats.
TLDR
It was calculated that the contribution of the peroxisomes to fatty acid oxidation was less than 10% both in cells from control and clofibrate-treated animals and remained unchanged in starvation and diabetes.
Effect of hypolipidemic drugs gemfibrozil, ciprofibrate, and clofibric acid on peroxisomal beta-oxidation in primary cultures of rainbow trout hepatocytes.
TLDR
It is demonstrated that peroxisomal beta-oxidation can be induced in vitro in a primary rainbow trout hepatocyte system and strong correlation was obtained between increased acyl-CoA oxidase activity and the relative amount of peroxISomal bifunctional enzyme (PBE), further supporting evidence of a proliferative effect.
Rat liver outer mitochondrial carnitine palmitoyltransferase activity towards long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids and their CoA esters
TLDR
The activity of the overt form of rat liver mitochondrial carnitine palmitoyltrasferase or CPT0 towards different fatty acid substrates was studied, providing an enzymatic rationale for the relatively low content of 18∶3ω3 in esterified lipid.
