Alpha-interferon (IFN-alpha) has been shown to be beneficial in the treatment of chronic active hepatitis occurring as a consequence of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. Therefore, it has been used to reduce the high rate of allograft infection in clinical liver transplantation of HBV-positive individuals.
