Alona hercegovinae n. sp. (Cladocera: Chydoridae), a blind cave-inhabiting Cladoceran from Hercegovina (Yugoslavia)

Abstract

Two interesting chydorid Cladocera were found in caves of Hercegovina and are described here. The pantropical Alona diaphana King, 1853 was already known in this part of Europe, but was found in a cave environment for the first time. Alona hercegovinae n. sp. is an eyeless and stygobiontic species, and was found in three caves.
