Flexible laryngoscopes are common outpatient surveillance tools. Cleansing of these scopes between patients must be quick, effective, and safe. One sterilant that largely meets these criteria is ortho-phthalaldehyde (OPA); however, infrequently, patients may develop allergic reactions to it.
