The canine major histocompatibility complex, termed DLA (for dog leukocyte antigen system), can be divided into three serologically defined loci, designated DLA-A, DLA-B, and DLA-C (Bull et al. 1987), and a fourth region (termed DLA-D) defined by mixed leukocyte culture (MLC) reactivity (Deeg et al. 1986).
