A skyrmion is a topological particle-like excitation in classical continuum field theory. Skyr-mion can be driven by spin-polarized current. However, to move the skyrmion along the central line of a nanotrack by in-plane spin-polarized current requires severe matching between the damping coefficient and the non-adiabatic coefficient, i.e. α is close to β, limiting possible material systems for skyrmion applications.
