The gas-phase structures of alkali-metal cationized glutamine are investigated by using both infrared multiple photon dissociation (IRMPD) action spectroscopy, utilizing light generated by a free electron laser, and theory. The IRMPD spectra contain many similarities that are most consistent with glutamine adopting nonzwitterionic forms in all ions, but differences in the spectra indicate that the specific nonzwitterionic forms adopted depend on metal-ion identity. For ions containing small… Expand
Structural Investigation of the Hormone Melatonin and Its Alkali and Alkaline Earth Metal Complexes in the Gas Phase
TLDR
Comparisons between the experimental and calculated spectra for alkali and alkaline earth metal ion complexes reveal that the metal ions interact similarly with the amide and methoxy oxygen atoms. Expand
Infrared multiple photon dissociation spectroscopy of cationized methionine: effects of alkali-metal cation size on gas-phase conformation.
The gas-phase structures of alkali-metal cation complexes of the amino acid methionine (Met) as well as protonated methionine are investigated using infrared multiple photon dissociation (IRMPD)Expand
Infrared Multiple-Photon Dissociation Spectra of Sodiated Complexes of the Aliphatic Amino Acids.
TLDR
Spectral comparison for all complexes indicates that the dominant conformation, [N, CO], binds to the amino nitrogen and carbonyl oxygen, and contributions are observed from [CO2-] structures, where the sodium cation binds to both oxygens of the carboxylate group in the zwitterionic form of the amino acid. Complexations of alkali/alkaline earth metal cations with gaseous glutamic acid

Conformations and Metal Ion Affinities of Glutamine Binding with Alkali and Alkaline Earth Metal Cations: an ab initio Study
Conformations and reaction energetics are important for understanding the interactions between biomolecules and metal ions. In this work, we report a systematic ab initio study on the conformationsExpand
Experimental and theoretical investigations of infrared multiple photon dissociation spectra of glutamic acid complexes with Zn2+ and Cd2.
TLDR
In both cases, the theoretically determined lowest-energy conformers explain the experimental [Zn(Glu-H)ACN]+ and CdCl+(Glu) spectra well. Expand
Metal cation dependence of interactions with amino acids: bond dissociation energies of Rb(+) and Cs(+) to the acidic amino acids and their amide derivatives.
TLDR
A systematic study of pairwise interactions of alkali metal cations with amino acids is examined by examining rubidium and cesium cations binding with the acidic amino acids (AA), aspartic acid (Asp) and glutamic acid (Glu), and their amide derivatives, asparagine and glutamine (Gln). Expand
Infrared multiple photon dissociation spectroscopy of protonated histidine and 4-phenyl imidazole
The gas-phase structures of protonated histidine (His) and the side-chain model, protonated 4-phenyl imidazole (PhIm), are examined by infrared multiple photon dissociation (IRMPD) actionExpand
Cationized phenylalanine conformations characterized by IRMPD and computation for singly and doubly charged ions.
TLDR
Electrospray ionization produces phenylalanine (Phe) complexes of the alkali metal ion series, plus Ag(+) and Ba(2+), which are unique in showing clear evidence of a major fraction of salt-bridge (zwitterionic) ions along with charge-solvated conformations. Expand
