Two groups of previously unknown Gram-negative, strictly anaerobic, pigment-producing, rod-shaped bacteria, which phenotypically and phylogenetically displayed a close association with the recently described species Alistipes finegoldii, were characterized using phenotypic and molecular taxonomic methods.
