We report on the formation of ultralong-range Rydberg D-state molecules via photoassociation in an ultracold cloud of rubidium atoms. By applying a magnetic offset field on the order of 10 G and high resolution spectroscopy, we are able to resolve individual rovibrational molecular states. A full theory, using a Fermi pseudopotential approach including s- and p-wave scattering terms, reproduces the measured binding energies. The calculated molecular wave functions show that in the experiment we… Expand
Alignment of s -state Rydberg molecules in magnetic fields
We unravel some peculiar properties of ultralong-range Rydberg molecules formed by an $s$-state $^{87}$Rb Rydberg atom and a corresponding ground-state atom whose electronic orbitals are sphericallyExpand
Ultralong-range Rydberg molecules
We review ultralong-range Rydberg molecules (ULRMs), which are bound states between a Rydberg atom and one or more ground-state atoms with bond lengths on the order of thousands of Bohr radii. TheExpand
Rb ultralong-range Rydberg molecules in magnetic and electric fields
Abstract We review the field of ultralong-range Rydberg molecules with a focus on recent developments. We briefly revisit the binding mechanism of Rydberg molecules based on electron-atom scatteringExpand
Ultralong-range triatomic Rydberg molecules in an electric field
We investigate the electronic structure of a triatomic Rydberg molecule formed by a Rydberg atom and two neutral ground-state atoms. Taking into account the $s$-wave and $p$-wave interactions weExpand
Formation of long-range Rydberg molecules in two-component ultracold gases
We present a comprehensive study of the diverse properties of heteronuclear Rydberg molecules, placing a special emphasis on those composed of the light alkali-metal atoms, Li, Na, and K.Expand
Anisotropic blockade using pendular long-range Rydberg molecules
We propose an experiment to demonstrate a novel blockade mechanism caused by long-range anisotropic interactions in an ultracold dipolar gas composed of the recently observed "butterfly" RydbergExpand
Anisotropic blockade using pendular long-range Rydberg molecules
We propose an experiment to demonstrate a novel blockade mechanism caused by long-range anisotropic interactions in an ultracold dipolar gas composed of the recently observed “butterfly” RydbergExpand
Ultracold molecular Rydberg physics in a high density environment
Sufficiently high densities in Bose–Einstein condensates provide favorable conditions for the production of ultralong-range polyatomic molecules consisting of one Rydberg atom and a number of neutralExpand
Observation of singlet-scattering channels in long-range Rydberg dimers
We report on the observation of long-range Cs2 Rydberg molecules consisting of a p-state Rydberg atom and a ground-state atom. Two types of molecular states are visible in the photoassociationExpand
D-state Rydberg electrons interacting with ultracold atoms
This thesis was established in the field of ultracold atoms where the interaction of highly excited D-state electrons with rubidium atoms was examined. This work is divided into two main parts: InExpand
