The pi-persistent protocol has been proposed for packetswitched, multiple access communication over highspeed, fibre optic (unidirectional) bus networks. In this paper this protocol is further developed in order to make it easily implementable by allowing it to be sensitive to variations in the offered traffic; in so doing, the protocol's infinite buffer model is studied.
