Alexander von Humboldt in Cuba, 1800/1801 and 1804: traces of an enigma
@article{Zeuske2011AlexanderVH, title={Alexander von Humboldt in Cuba, 1800/1801 and 1804: traces of an enigma}, author={Michael Zeuske}, journal={Studies in Travel Writing}, year={2011}, volume={15}, pages={347 - 358} }
This essay follows the traces of Alexander von Humboldt in Cuba in two ways, first by means of the written record and second as part of the author's fieldwork, searching for and following the possible routes that Humboldt took during his two visits to Cuba. The aim of this research is to reconstruct the real itinerary of Humboldt in Cuba, his contacts and the ‘experimental’ basis of his theoretical conclusions about slavery, the slave trade, and the slaves themselves.
