A new species of bonefish (Albuliformes: Albulidae: Albulinae) from the eastern Pacific Ocean, Albula gilberti, is described. Previously referred to as Albula sp. A, A. gilberti is distributed throughout the Gulf of California, Mexico to the coastal waters of California, USA. Presently, it can be distinguished from its closest relative, A. esuncula (= Albula sp. C) from the tropical eastern Pacific, solely by differences in mitochondrial DNA (cytochrome b) gene sequences. No diagnostic external…
Morphological description of genetically identified Cortez bonefish (Albula gilberti, Pfeiler and van der Heiden 2011) leptocephali from the southern Gulf of California
TLDR
In early metamorphic leptocephali some differences in horizontal eye diameter-head length ratio, number of rays of pelvic and anal fins and myomere of pelvic-fin origin may help to differentiate A. gilberti from A. esuncula.
Proposed synonymy for Micropogonias altipinnis (Günther 1864), Micropogonias ectenes (Jordan & Gilbert 1882), and Micropogonias megalops (Gilbert 1890)
TLDR
Genetic results suggest that the three species of Micropogonias are one species and that the differences in meristics and morphometry could be the result of phenotypic plasticity or incipient speciation.
Ginglymostoma unami sp. nov. (Chondrichthyes: Orectolobiformes: Ginglymostomatidae): una especie nueva de tiburón gata del Pacífico oriental tropical
A new species of shark belonging to the family Ginglymostomatidae is herein described; the new species show a wide distribution in the Tropical Eastern Pacific, where it is endemic. Ginglymostoma
Round herring (genus Etrumeus) contain distinct evolutionary lineages coincident with a biogeographic barrier along Australia’s southern temperate coastline
TLDR
While the Bassian Isthmus may have initiated the partition of evolutionary lineages within Australia, additional oceanographic and ecological factors must reinforce this separation in order to maintain diagnostic genetic differences along a continuous temperate coastline.
High intraspecific genetic connectivity in the Indo-Pacific bonefishes: implications for conservation and management

TLDR
The present study highlights the need for further research, and suggests conservation and management strategies for the Indo-Pac bonefishes may need both local and regional components to prevent further declines and localized collapse.
Global conservation status and research needs for tarpons (Megalopidae), ladyfishes (Elopidae) and bonefishes (Albulidae)
We assessed the taxonomic diversity, geographic distributions, life history, ecology and fisheries of tarpons, ladyfishes and bonefishes (members of the subdivision Elopomorpha), which share many
DNA-based taxonomy and potential suppression of long-established names: the case of Telegonus fulgerator (Lepidoptera: Hesperiidae)
TLDR
An historical background on the nomenclature of T. fulgerator is provided, a neotype is proposed in order to stabilize a name that has been in use for almost 250 years, and the few data available on geographic distributions and probable dispersal scenarios of several of the cryptic species of the fulgerators complex are summarized based on publicly available barcodes.
