Abstract

By using an automated system which quickly points out which patients have developed infections, hospitals in Alabama have been able to reduce the nosocomial infection rate by 19% and save millions of dollars in treatment costs. Not only are hospitals responding to individual infections faster, they are also using the system to analyze trends and implement performance improvements to prevent infections from happening in the first place.
