Asthma is a disease characterized, in part, by reversible airflow obstruction, hyperresponsiveness and inflammation. Traditional concepts concerning airway inflammation have focused on leukocyte trafficking and on the effects of inflammatory mediators, cytokines and chemokines secreted by these cells.
