Inflammation of the airway wall and airway hyperresponsiveness are consistent features of chronic asthma. We investigated how damage of the bronchial epithelium is related to airway hyperresponsiveness and how bronchial infiltration of eosinophils and lymphocytes is related to bronchial epithelial damage.
