The basidiomycete Hypholoma sublateritium produces clavaric acid, an antitumor isoprenoid compound. Arthrospores of this fungus were transformed by Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated conjugation. Five plasmids carrying different regulatory sequences to drive expression of the hph (hygromycin phosphotransferase) gene were tested.
