With reference to the Buddhist idea of anatta, and the Christian concept of pneuma, this chapter outlines a framework for meaningful spirituality in later life. It critically examines the importance of consumerist constructs on human life, which propogate a denial of death and ageing. This essay argues that the Buddhist and Christian notions are complementary, and can help frame a more meaningful understanding of self and spirituality in later life.
