The prostaglandin I2 biosynthetic capacity of aortae from spontaneously hypertensive rats of various ages (1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 months) was investigated. An age-dependent increase in enzyme activity was observed reaching maximum by three months of age which correlated well with the age- related increase in the systolic blood pressure.
