This review covers age‐dating methods applied to young stellar populations in starburst galaxies with ages of 108 yr and less. First, recent advances in stellar modeling, both for the interior and the atmospheres, are discussed and spectral lines and colors suitable for age‐dating are identified. These age indicators are then applied to single stellar populations, the simplest building blocks of starbursts. More complex systems, such as luminous starburst galaxies, are a challenge for… Expand

Modeling Tracers of Young Stellar Population Age in Star-Forming Galaxies
The young stellar population of a star-forming galaxy is the primary engine driving its radiative properties. As a result, the age of a galaxy's youngest generation of stars is critical for aExpand
Understanding star formation and feedback in small galaxies
(Abridged) Low-luminosity, active star-forming blue compact galaxies (BCGs) are excellent laboratories for investigating the process of star formation on galactic scales and probing the interplayExpand
Models for Pop I stars: implications for age determinations
Abstract Starting from a few topical astrophysical questions which require the knowledge of the age of Pop I stars, we discuss the needed precision on the age in order to make progresses in theseExpand
