After digestion of DNA with a restriction enzyme (Chapter 50), it is usually necessary, for both preparative and analytical purposes, to separate and visualize the products. In most cases, where the products are between 200 and 20,000 bp long, this is achieved by agarose gel electrophoresis. Agarose is a linear polymer that is extracted from seaweed and sold as a white powder. The powder is melted in buffer and allowed to cool, whereby the agarose forms a gel by hydrogen bonding. The hardened…

Analysis of Biosorption Parameters, Equilibrium Isotherms and Thermodynamic Studies of Chromium (VI) Uptake by a Nostoc sp. Isolated from a Coal Mining Site in Meghalaya, India
A cyanobacterium isolated from a water sample collected from a coal mine in the West Khasi Hills of Meghalaya, India, and identified as Nostoc sp. (accession no. KX814344) using 16S rRNA analysis
Cadmium removal by Anabaena doliolum Ind1 isolated from a coal mining area in Meghalaya, India: associated structural and physiological alterations
TLDR
Both respiration and photosynthetic activities were inhibited by cadmium with more severe effect seen on respiration, and a drastic negative effect on nitrogenase activity was seen.
FHIT and TSG101 in thyroid tumours: aberrant transcripts reflect rare abnormal RNA processing events of uncertain pathogenetic or clinical significance.
TLDR
There was no relationship between tumour stage, grade or survival and the presence of FHIT or TSG101 abnormalities and no correlation was found with stage, histological grade or outcome in this small group of advanced thyroid malignancies.
Role of activation-induced cytidine deaminase (AID) in follicular lymphoma biology
TLDR
It is found that functional readouts of AID are more strongly associated with adverse clinical features in FL compared to AID mRNA or protein expression.
Fungi and mycotoxins in fresh and ensiled maize and the affects of agronomic practices, weather conditions and silage characteristics
This chapter will briefly review the biology and ecology of mycotoxigenic fungi, genetic potential and environmental stimuli that impact mycotoxin production, the effects of toxin contamination on
Expression and activity of a housefly cytochrome P 450 , CYP 6 D 1 , in Drosophila melanogaster
TLDR
It is demonstrated that house-fly CYP6D1 can interact with low to moderate efficiency with Drosophila P450 reductase and cytochrome b 5, and this work describes the transformation of Dosophila melanogaster with a house- fly-specific cy tochrome P450, CYP 6D1.
Minimal Heating at the Skin Surface During Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation
To assess if transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) produces a temperature change at the skin surface, if any change is stimulation polarity (anode or cathode) specific, and the contribution
