Hispanics make up less than 10% of the U.S. population but account for 83,923 (17%) of all U.S AIDS cases and are disproportionately affected by sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Nurses have a mandate to provide culturally competent care, but to do so, they must understand what their clients' needs are and how best to deliver nursing care.
