Abstract Dried, crushed, corncobs were carbonized at 500°C and steam activated (in one- or two-step schemes), or activated with H 3 PO 4 . The products were characterized by N 2 adsorption at 77 K, using the BET, α s and DR methods. Adsorption capacity was demonstrated by the iodine and phenol numbers, and the isotherms of methylene blue and Pb 2+ ions, from aqueous solutions.
