The levels of corticosterone were estimated by the HPLC method in the adrenal glands of stressed (5 h constant swimming) male albino mice treated with Trichopus zeylanicus, Withania somnifera and Panax ginseng preparations and compared with non‐treated stressed and normal controls. The treatments increased the corticosterone levels in all the groups. The physical endurance (increased survival time) of swimming mice also increased in all the treated groups, except in the group treated with…
Effects of Chlorophytum arundinaceum, Asparagus adscendens and Asparagus racemosus on pro‐inflammatory cytokine and corticosterone levels produced by stress
TLDR
The extracts of these plants were shown to exert an inhibitory effect on pro‐inflammatory cytokines, namely interleukin 1β and tumour necrosis factor α, and on the production of nitric oxide in mouse macrophage cells RAW 264.7 stimulated by lipopolysaccharide in vitro.
Study of antistress activity of NR-A2 in active anaphylaxis-induced allergic rats.
TLDR
NR-A2 treated rats showed a significant increase in swimming time and reduction of the increased levels of Plasma corticosterone as compared to sensitized control rats.
A Standardized Withania Somnifera Extract Significantly Reduces Stress-Related Parameters in Chronically Stressed Humans: A Double-Blind, Randomized, Placebo-Controlled Study
TLDR
Investigation of the effects of standardized WS root and leaf extract in chronically stressed humans in a modern clinical trial provides evidence that the consumption of WSE significantly reduces experiential and biochemical indicators of stress without adverse effects.
Actoprotective effect of ginseng: improving mental and physical performance
TLDR
Preparations of ginseng can be regarded as potential actoprotectors which give way to further research of its influence on physical and mental work capacity, endurance and restoration after exhaustive physical loads while compared with reference actoprotsectors.
NEURO-ENDOCRINE-IMMUNE MODULATION BY AYURVEDIC RASAYANA DRUGS
TLDR
It has been observed that most of Rasayana drugs in Ayurveda tend to exhibit their activities by modulating the neuro-endocrine-immune systems along with anti-stress/adaptogenic capability.
Evaluation of Analgesic Activity of Standardised Aqueous Extract of Withania somnifera in Healthy Human Volunteers using Mechanical Pain Model
TLDR
Evaluating the analgesic effect and tolerability of single oral dose of standardized aqueous extract of Withania somnifera using Hot Air Pain model in healthy human volunteers found both drugs were well tolerated.
A REVIEW ON HERBS WITH ANTIDEPRESSANT PROPERTIES
Since the dawn of civilization, plants have been the basis of a medicine and a major resource for human health care for curative and palliative functions. Man in today times has always been in quest
New insights into dietary supplements used in sport: active substances, pharmacological and side effects.
TLDR
This review will be to systematically evaluate some of the herbal supplements that are used as adaptogenic and ergogenic aids in sport and will include available data on Rhodiola rosea, Withania somniferA, Schisandra chinensis, Tribulus terrestris, Vitis vinifera, Citrus aurantium and others.
Natural Therapies for Fibromyalgia Syndrome
TLDR
Over the past decade, fibromyalgia has been better defined in terms of physical and laboratory findings, which have suggested helpful guides for diagnosis and has become the diagnostic gold standard for FM.

Anti‐stress activity of sitoindosides VII and VIII, new acylsterylglucosides from Withania somnifera
TLDR
Two new acylsterylglucosides were isolated from the roots of Withania somnifera Dun.
Steroid hormone alterations following induction of chronic intraperitoneal sepsis in male rats.
TLDR
It is concluded that in the chronic septic rat model, induction of i.p. sepsis produced dysfunction in steroidogenesis, which selectively affected the synthesis of testosterone, an end product of male steroidogenesis.
A Syndrome produced by Diverse Nocuous Agents
TLDR
If the organism is severely damaged by acute non-specific nocuous agents such as exposure to cold, surgical injury, production of spinal shock, excessive muscular exercise, or intoxications with sublethal doses of diverse drugs, a typical syndrome appears, the symptoms of which are independent of the nature of the damaging agent or the pharmacological type of the drug employed.
The evolution of the stress concept.
TLDR
Every one of these conditions can produce stress, and yet none of them can be singled out as being "it" since the word applies equally to all others as well.
