Chronic food restriction (FR) of rats and mice results in moderate hyperadrenocorticism, which may play a role in activating cellular mechanisms that retard aging. Previously, we reported that the FR-induced hyperadrenocorticism is not due to an activated hypothalamo-pituitary unit.
