IN 1950, Deming and Luetscher1 reported that urine from patients with congestive heart failure showed an increase in sodiumretaining activity. This finding was the first suggestive evidence that a high blood level of aldosterone is present in heart failure and this result raised the question of the pathogenic importance of aldosterone in cardiac failure.
