Adiponectin is an adipose tissue-derived plasma protein that is involved in regulation of insulin resistance and glucose hemostasis. Human pregnancy is characterized by an increase in insulin resistance. Therefore, it is only natural that the role of adiponectin, a modulator of insulin resistance, is subject to investigation during gestation.
