Abstract. Adiponectin is a novel polypeptide that is highly specific to adipose tissue. In contrast to other adipocytokines, adiponectin levels are decreased in obesity and associated comorbidities, such as type 2 diabetes. Decreased expression of adiponectin is correlated with insulin resistance. It has been suggested that several agents, such as tumor necrosis factor α, could mediate their effects on insulin metabolism through modulating adiponectin secretion from adipocytes. The mechanisms…
Adiponectin as a potential biomarker of vascular disease
TLDR
Increased circulating adiponectin alleviates obesity-induced endothelial dysfunction and hypertension, and also prevents atherosclerosis, myocardial infarction, and diabetic cardiac tissue disorders, and its potential use as a target for therapeutic intervention in vascular disease is summarized.
Adiponectin and Leptin Adipocytokines in Metabolic Syndrome: What Is Its Importance?
TLDR
The characteristics and main functions of adipocytokines derived from adipose tissue such as adiponectin and LEP, which in the Colombian context could give good guidance for the management of MS, especially in populations of children and adolescents are addressed.
Adiponectin and adiponectin receptors.
TLDR
It is shown that AdipoR1 and AdIPoR2 serve as receptors for globular and full-length adiponectin and mediate increased AMP-activated protein kinase, peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-alpha ligand activities, and glucose uptake and fatty-acid oxidation by adiponECTin.
Adiponectin, Obesity, and Cancer
TLDR
Adiponectin’s structure and post-translational modifications are considered as critical determinants of its activity and receptor-binding ability and may represent a novel preventative approach to diminish the incidence and mortality from obesity-associated cancers.
Adiponectin and vascular properties in obese patients: is it a novel biomarker of early atherosclerosis?
TLDR
Investigating a possible association between serum adiponectin levels and early vascular changes in obese patients as determined by intima media thickness (IMT) and arterial pulse-wave contour analysis found this association was independent of traditional cardiovascular risk factors.
Role of leptin resistance in the development of obesity in older patients
TLDR
How age-related leptin resistance triggers metabolic disturbances and affects the longevity of obese patients is reviewed and the potential impacts of leptin resistance on the decline of brown adipose tissue thermogenesis observed in elderly individuals are discussed.
RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ADIPONECTIN AND CERTAIN METABOLIC PARAMETERS IN DIABETIC AND CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE PATIENTS
TLDR
The clinical observation showed the association of the cardiovascular condition and diabetes with high blood pressure, dyslipidemia and atheroscleros is shown, and the co rrelation of adiponectin with obesity, diabetes and dys Lipidemia is analyzed.
The Role of Adiponectin in Breast cancer: The mechanism and action
TLDR
It seems that adiponectin motivates the sensitivity of peripheral tissue to insulin, which can motivate the proliferation of breast cancer cells via signaling through insulin and insulin –like growth factor (IGF-1) receptors.
RELATIONSHIP BETwEEN LEPTIN-ADIPONECTIN RATIO AND INSULIN RESISTANCE IN OBESE SUBjECTS
TLDR
The results suggest that the L/A ratio might be a more sensitive and reliable indicator of insulin resistance in obese subjects than adiponectin or leptin concentrations.

Weight reduction increases plasma levels of an adipose-derived anti-inflammatory protein, adiponectin.
TLDR
Body weight reduction increased the plasma levels of a protective adipocytokine, adiponectin, despite the reduction of the only tissue of its own synthesis, suggesting that the expression of adip onectin is under feedback inhibition in obesity.
PPARgamma ligands increase expression and plasma concentrations of adiponectin, an adipose-derived protein.
TLDR
Thiazolidinediones (TZDs) might prevent atherosclerotic vascular disease in insulin-resistant patients by inducing the production of adiponectin through direct effect on its promoter and antagonizing the effect of TNF-alpha on the adiponECTin promoter.
Resistin and obesity-associated insulin resistance
The fat-derived hormone adiponectin reverses insulin resistance associated with both lipoatrophy and obesity
TLDR
It is concluded that decreased adiponectin is implicated in the development of insulin resistance in mouse models of both obesity and lipoatrophy and that the replenishment of adiponECTin might provide a novel treatment modality for insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes.
Adipose tissue as an endocrine organ: impact on insulin resistance.
TLDR
A theory is presented to link the interrelationship between these adipocyte secretory products and their effect on insulin resistance.
Novel modulator for endothelial adhesion molecules : Adipocyte-derived plasma protein adiponectin
TLDR
An over-accumulation of adipocytes, in particular, visceral adipocyte, causes the elevated portal FFA and glycerol to become hyperlipidemia or diabetes mellitus, which brings about the insulin resistance, and through this, hyper Lipidemia andabetes mellitus get worse, and hypertension occurs.
Adiponectin, an Adipocyte-Derived Plasma Protein, Inhibits Endothelial NF-&kgr;B Signaling Through a cAMP-Dependent Pathway
TLDR
The possibility that adiponectin, which is naturally present in the blood stream, modulates the inflammatory response of endothelial cells through cross talk between cAMP-PKA and NF-&kgr;B signaling pathways is raised.
Disruption of Adiponectin Causes Insulin Resistance and Neointimal Formation*
TLDR
This study provides the first direct evidence that adiponectin plays a protective role against insulin resistance and atherosclerosis in vivo.
Adipocyte-Derived Plasma Protein, Adiponectin, Suppresses Lipid Accumulation and Class A Scavenger Receptor Expression in Human Monocyte-Derived Macrophages
TLDR
The present study investigated the effects of adiponectin on lipid accumulation in human monocyte-derived macrophages and found that treatment with physiological concentrations of adip onectin reduced intracellular cholesteryl ester content.
Circulating concentrations of the adipocyte protein adiponectin are decreased in parallel with reduced insulin sensitivity during the progression to type 2 diabetes in rhesus monkeys.
TLDR
Reduction in circulating adiponectin may be related to the development of insulin resistance in rhesus monkeys, which spontaneously develop obesity and which subsequently frequently progress to overt type 2 diabetes.
