Various physiological stimuli and changes in state were found to modulate heart rate inAplysia californica. Heart rate increases following a meal, during spontaneous increases in activity, in response to an increase in temperature, to noxious or food stimuli, to moderate hypoxia and during eating. Heart rate decreases in response to extreme hypoxia and during eating in animals that are nearly satiated.
