One of the key overhead components affecting the overall performance of hybrid ad hoc networks is the discovery and selection of Internet gateways. We develop an analytical model to evaluate existing proposals and we show that each of them is suited only for a limited range of network conditions. We propose and simulate two new adaptive gateway discovery algorithms (maximal source coverage and maximal benefit coverage) based on the dynamic adjustment of the scope of the gateway advertisement…

Optimization gateway discovery mechanisms for hybrid ad hoc networks
TLDR
Performance results show that this adaptive Internet connectivity scheme can provide better performance than others due to its adaptive mechanisms, avoiding unidirectional links as well as relieving broadcast storm, and is a step closer to making the large-scale deployment of mobile ad hoc networks a reality.
Adaptive Gateway Discovery in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks. A Low-overhead and Scalable Solution based on Proxies.
TLDR
A gateway discovery algorithm which dynamically adapts its behavior depending on the number of active traffic sources which are in the MANET, which is shown to greatly outperform the remaining solutions in terms of overhead reduction, while it is still able to provide a high packet delivery ratio.
Adaptive Distributed Gateway Discovery in Hybrid Wireless Networks
TLDR
This paper presents a novel adaptive gateway discovery scheme called ADD (Adaptive Distributed gateway Discovery), in which the adaptation is done in a fully distributed manner, and results show that the distributed adaptation capabilities of the proposed scheme facilitate outperforming the existing gateway discovery mechanisms.
Low Overhead and Scalable Proxied Adaptive Gateway Discovery for Mobile Ad Hoc Networks
TLDR
A gateway discovery algorithm which dynamically adapts its behavior depending on the number of active traffic sources which are in the MANET, which is shown to greatly outperform the remaining solutions in terms of overhead reduction, while it is still able to provide a high packet delivery ratio.
An Adaptive Gateway Discovery Algorithm to support QoS When Providing Internet Access to Mobile Ad Hoc Networks
TLDR
Simulation results indicate that the proposed scheme significantly improves the average end-to-end delay, jitter and packet delivery ratio of real-time flows; the routing overhead is also reduced and there is no starvation of best-effort traffic.
Reducing Problems in Providing Internet Connectivity for Mobile Ad Hoc Networks
TLDR
The required functions on providing Internet connectivity for MANETs and its mobility management are introduced and two discovered problems are classified and discussed, and solutions are proposed, which either reduce partly or eliminate completely discovered problems.
Improved Scheme for Adaptive Gateway Discovery in Hybrid MANET
TLDR
The simulations show that the proposed adaptive mechanism outperforms the conventional schemes: it decreases network saturation while it achieves lower end-to-end delay and it minimizes the routing overhead.
A reliable and robust gateway discovery mechanism for vehicular ad hoc networks
TLDR
This paper proposes a fault tolerance, load balancing, and QoS based service discovery protocol for vehicular network and it is proved its correctness.

A hybrid approach to Internet connectivity for mobile ad hoc networks
TLDR
This paper presents a hybrid scheme that uses techniques such as TTL scoping of agent advertisements, eavesdropping and caching agent and advertisements to combine the advantages of proactive and reactive approaches to providing connectivity.

TLDR
A technique is described that allows a single ad hoc network to span across heterogeneous link layers, which can both integrate ad hoc networks into the hierarchical Internet and support the migration of mobile nodes from the Internet into and out of ad hoc Networks via Mobile IP.
Hybrid gateway advertisement scheme for connecting mobile ad hoc networks to the Internet
TLDR
Two kinds of advertising schemes are proposed, which are based on the observation of traffic and mobility patterns, and are designed to avoid generating unnecessary packets in the MANET (Mobile Ad hoc Network), in addition to giving mobile nodes more opportunity to use the shortest path to the Internet.
Internet connectivity for mobile Ad Hoc networks
TLDR
The source code of AODV is modified in accordance with the Internet draft\Global connectivity for IPv6 Mobile Ad Hoc Networks " which presents a solution where A ODV is used to provide Internet access to mobile nodes.
Internet Connectivity for Ad Hoc Mobile Networks
TLDR
This work presents a method for enabling the cooperation of Mobile IP and the Ad hoc On-Demand Distance Vector routing protocol, such that mobile nodes that are not within direct transmission range of a foreign agent can still obtain Internet connectivity.
MIPMANET: mobile IP for mobile ad hoc networks
TLDR
MIPMANET provides Internet access by using Mobile IP with foreign agent care-of addresses and reverse tunneling and shows that the ability to choose the closest access point to the Internet is worth extra work, as less traffic is generated in the network resulting in lower delays and fewer dropped packets.
Ad hoc On-Demand Distance Vector (AODV) Routing
TLDR
A logging instrument contains a pulsed neutron source and a pair of radiation detectors spaced along the length of the instrument to provide an indication of formation porosity which is substantially independent of the formation salinity.
Ns: notes and documentation
ns c is LBNL’s Network Simulator [14]. The simulator is written in C++; it uses OTcl as a command and configuration interface. ns v2 has three substantial changes from ns v1: (1) the more complex
