This review elucidates the roles of capillary haemodynamics, nitric oxide (NO) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in the remodelling of skeletal muscle microcirculation in response to increased (electrical stimulation) or decreased (chronic ischaemia) blood flow.
