Abstract Context: The largest group of new psychoactive substances (NPS) are synthetic cannabinoids (SC). Those that become controlled are immediately replaced by new uncontrolled substances. The recent resurgence of the NPS market in Poland resulted in a further amendment to the Drug Addiction Counteraction Act. This resulted in significant changes in the composition of “legal high” preparations, and consequently a large outbreak of intoxications with SC was reported in Poland at the beginning… Expand
Atypical profile of intoxication with the mix of new psychoactive substances
Introduction: In recent years an increase in the intake of new psychoactive substances (NPS) has been observed in the Polish adolescent population. Synthetic cathinones are a group of evolving drugsExpand
Analytically Confirmed Intoxications Involving MDMB-CHMICA from the STRIDA Project
TLDR
The association with severe adverse reactions in nine acute analytically confirmed intoxication cases involving MDMB-CHMICA is consistent with other reports of serious toxicity linked to this substance, suggesting thatMDMB- CHMICA might be a particularly harmful SC. Expand
Blood concentrations of synthetic cannabinoids
TLDR
The observed concentrations of SCs vary widely and often have overlapping ranges for fatal and non-fatal cases, therefore, a referenced compilation of concentration ranges would be useful. Expand
‘Spice-like’ herbal incense laced with the synthetic opioid U-47700
TLDR
The presence of U-47700 in ‘spice-like’ herbal incense raises great concerns, since the abuse may pose serious risk, as users will likely not be aware that they are using a potent synthetic opioid. Expand
Spicing Up Pharmacology: A Review of Synthetic Cannabinoids From Structure to Adverse Events.
TLDR
An overview of the endocannabinoid system, CB, and SCB chemical structures and activity at CB receptors is presented and it is clear that many SCB are extremely dangerous and a major public health problem. Expand
Increase in Adverse Reactions Associated with Use of Synthetic Cannabinoids - Anchorage, Alaska, 2015-2016.
TLDR
A public health investigation was initiated to describe clinical outcomes, characterize the outbreak, and identify SC chemicals circulating in Anchorage. Expand
AB-CHMINACA-induced sudden death from non-cardiogenic pulmonary edema
TLDR
The findings show that AB-CHMINACA induced rapid progression of pulmonary edema resulting in hypoxic encephalopathy and systemic hypoxemia, possibly through severe seizures, and highlights the usefulness of quantification of M2 in diagnosing AB- CHMINACA intoxication. Expand
Activity-Based Detection of Consumption of Synthetic Cannabinoids in Authentic Urine Samples Using a Stable Cannabinoid Reporter System.
TLDR
Stable CB1 and CB2 receptor activation assays are generated based on functional complementation of a split NanoLuc luciferase and used to test an expanded set of recent SCs, demonstrating that several major metabolites of these SCs retain their activity at the cannabinoid receptors. Expand
Severe illness associated with reported use of synthetic cannabinoids: a public health investigation (Mississippi, 2015)
TLDR
A multistate outbreak of illness linked to synthetic cannabinoid (SC) use was unprecedented in magnitude and severity in April 2015, and MAB-CHMINACA was the most commonly detected SC in this outbreak. Expand
New Psychoactive Substances in Pediatric Patients.
TLDR
The clinical presentations of patients intoxicated with cannabinoids and cathinones are highly variable but most commonly present with a sympathomimetic toxidrome, for example, agitation, delirium, and tachycardia. Expand
