The central nucleus of the amygdala (CNA) is a component of the brain reward pathway which is believed to represent an anatomical substrate for drugs of abuse. Previous studies have shown that acute ethanol administration induces the expression of c-fos in the CNA of rat brains. We report here, that over 70% of these c-fos immunoreactive neurons are GABAergic.
