Activity of teicoplanin against coagulase-negative staphylococci isolated from patients undergoing continuous peritoneal dialysis

Abstract

Of 209 specimens studied, 136 (65.0 %) were positive on ELISA, and 125 (59.8 %) were positive on culture. Of 140 specimens subjected to immunofluorescence assay, 130 (92.8 %) were positive. Since the sandwich method of micro ELISA seems to be more sensitive than culture or direct immunofluorescence, the eight false positives obtained with this method probably corresponded to true positive Gardnerella vaginalis specimens which could not be detected by the reference tests.
