Child overweight in France and its relationship with physical activity, sedentary behaviour and socioeconomic status
TLDR
This study confirms the association between SES, sedentary behaviour and childhood OW in France and will contribute to monitoring both childhood OW and its main determinants at the population scale.
Variations and determinants of energy expenditure as measured by whole-body indirect calorimetry during puberty and adolescence.
TLDR
The DEE of adolescents measured under standardized conditions varied with sex, body composition, and season, but not with stage of puberty, and these variables could be predicted accurately from fat-free mass, sex, andSeason.
Associations between objectively assessed physical activity and indicators of body fatness in 9- to 10-y-old European children: a population-based study from 4 distinct regions in Europe (the European Youth Heart Study).
TLDR
The accumulated amount of time spent at moderate and vigorous PA is related to body fatness in children, but this relation is weak; the explained variance was <1%.
Graded associations between cardiorespiratory fitness, fatness, and blood pressure in children and adolescents
TLDR
A curvilinear graded relation was found between cardiorespiratory fitness and waist circumference, sum of skinfolds, and systolic blood pressure, and the greatest difference in these health variables was observed between low and moderate fitness levels.
Longitudinal changes in activity patterns, physical capacities, energy expenditure, and body composition in severely obese adolescents during a multidisciplinary weight-reduction program
TLDR
The great BW and FM losses, preservation of FFM, and improvement of physical capacities of obese adolescents obtained under experimental conditions were associated with increases in leisure physical activities in free-living conditions at the expense of sleep and sedentary activities.
Tracking and prevalence of cardiovascular disease risk factors across socio-economic classes: A longitudinal substudy of the European Youth Heart Study
TLDR
The results indicate that the fundamental possibilities of predicting overweight and low physical fitness at an early point in time are the same for different groups of socio-economic status.
Endurance training-induced changes in insulin sensitivity and gene expression.
TLDR
Genes of interest upregulated in HSIR include V-Ski oncogene, four-and-a-half LIM domain 1, and titin, which should provide a better understanding of molecular mechanisms involved in the improvement in insulin sensitivity in response to regular exercise.
Effects of a multidisciplinary weight loss intervention on anaerobic and aerobic aptitudes in severely obese adolescents
TLDR
Multidisciplinary weight reduction programme including moderate dietary restriction in combination with regular physical training induced an improvement of anaerobic and aerobic aptitudes, a marked reduction of obesity and a preservation of LM in severely obese adolescents.
