Based on SDSS data, we consider the fraction of active galactic nuclei among polar-ring galaxies. We have found evidence for an excess of Seyfert galaxies and LINERS among polar-ring galaxies compared to ordinary objects. The observed nuclear activity of polar-ring galaxies may be associated with the accretion of gas from the region of the polar structures onto the central galaxies.

A new catalogue of polar-ring galaxies selected from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey

Galaxies with polar rings (PRGs) are a unique class of extragalactic objects. Using these, we can investigate a wide range of problems, linked to the formation and evolution of galaxies, and we can

Kinematics and dark haloes of polar-ring galaxies.

Direct Effects of the Environment on AGN Triggering in SDSS Spiral Galaxies: Merger-AGN connection

We examine whether galaxy environments directly affect triggering nuclear activity in Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) local spiral galaxies using a volume-limited sample with the r-band absolute

The host galaxies of active galactic nuclei

We examine the properties of the host galaxies of 22 623 narrow-line active galactic nuclei (AGN) with 0.02 < z < 0.3 selected from a complete sample of 122 808 galaxies from the Sloan Digital Sky

Polar-ring galaxies: New candidates and statistics

We present the results of our observational study of two candidates for polar-ring galaxies (PRGs). Both objects, A2330-3751 and SDSS J000911.57-003654.7, are giant edge-on galaxies with large-scale

Formation of Polar Ring S0 Galaxies in Dissipative Galaxy Mergers

We numerically investigate stellar and gasdynamics of galaxy mergers between gas-rich, late-type spirals in order to explore the origin of polar ring S0 galaxies. We found that dissipative galaxy

The Baldwin, Phillips, and Terlevich emission-line ratio diagnostic ([O iii]/Hβ versus [N ii]/Hα, hereafter BPT diagram) efficiently separates galaxies whose signal is dominated by star formation

The shape of the dark halo in polar-ring galaxies

Photometric and kinematic observations of the polar-ring galaxies NGC 4650A and ESO 415-G26 are presented. The inner component of each system is an S0 galaxy, as was previously found in the case of

H I maps of S0 galaxies with polar rings

VLA maps in the 21 cm line of neutral hydrogen have been obtained for three S0 galaxies with polar rings, and an upper limit on H I has been obtained for a fourth system. Polar rings span a
