Transforming growth factor-beta1 (TGF-beta1) alters myocardial gene expression, resulting in myocyte hypertrophy, through activation of TGF-beta-activated kinase (TAK1), a member of the mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase kinase (MAPKKK) family.
