Achilles' tendon injuries are common in runners. The muscle tendon complex primarily functions eccentrically, and it is during this phase that failure occurs. Reconditioning programs that incorporate eccentric strengthening and plyometric and other neuromuscular strengthening theories with a concerted specific gradual activity challenge can be successful.
