Spin valves based on materials in which the spin-flip is suppressed by the spatial separation of charge carriers, while maintaining electric neutrality in the valve volume, are considered. The possibility of using these valves as electric batteries is discussed. It is shown that if the potential difference across the valve is controlled, incommensurability effects such as the "devil's staircase" may be expected, which are associated with the Coulomb interaction and redistribution of electrons… Expand

Spintronics: Fundamentals and applications
Spintronics, or spin electronics, involves the study of active control and manipulation of spin degrees of freedom in solid-state systems. This article reviews the current status of this subject,Expand
Spin accumulation at ferromagnet/nonmagnetic material interfaces
Many proposed and realized spintronic devices involve spin injection and accumulation at an interface between a ferromagnet and a non-magnetic material. We examine the electric field, voltageExpand

It is shown that antiferromagnetic vdW bilayers can be made half metallic, in which electrons of singular spin are metallic but those of the opposite spin are insulating, leading to 100% spin-polarized conduction electrons. Expand
Nobel Lecture: Origin, development, and future of spintronics
Electrons have a charge and a spin, but until recently, charges and spins have been considered separately. In conventional electronics, the charges are manipulated by electric fields but the spinsExpand
Spin field-effect transistor with electric control
The effects of spin polarization control in hybrid magnetic-nonmagnetic conductor structures have been considered. The concept of a transistor capable of generating and amplifying a spin-alternatingExpand
Spin battery operated by ferromagnetic resonance
Precessing ferromagnets are predicted to inject a spin current into adjacent conductors via Ohmic contacts, irrespective of a conductance mismatch with, for example, doped semiconductors. This opensExpand
Spin-guide source for the generation of highly spin-polarized currents
allows long-distance transmission of the spin polarization, is proposed. In the spin-guide scheme, a nonmagnetic conducting channel is interfaced or surrounded by a grounded magnetic shell thatExpand
Fundamental obstacle for electrical spin injection from a ferromagnetic metal into a diffusive semiconductor
We have calculated the spin-polarization effects of a current in a two-dimensional electron gas which is contacted by two ferromagnetic metals. In the purely diffusive regime, the current may indeedExpand
Novel Chern insulators with half-metallic edge states
The central target of spintronics research is to achieve flexible control of highly efficient and spin-polarized electronic currents. Based on first-principles calculations and k-p models, weExpand
Gate-controllable spin battery
We propose a gate-controllable spin-battery for spin current. The spin battery consists of a lateral double quantum dot under a uniform magnetic field. A finite dc spin current is driven out of theExpand
