Abstract Peripheral myelin protein 22 (PMP-22) is a glycoprotein expressed in the myelin sheath of myelinated Schwann cells. Duplication of the PMP-22 gene and its gene dosage effect have been postulated to be involved in the pathogenesis in the majority of individuals with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease type 1A (CMT1A).
