Supermassive black holes in the centers of active galactic nuclei (AGN) are surrounded by broad-line regions (BLRs). The broad emission lines seen in the AGN spectra are emitted in this spatially unresolved region. We intend to obtain information on the structure and geometry of this BLR based on observed line profiles. We modeled the rotational and turbulent velocities in the line-emitting region on the basis of the line-width FWHM and line dispersion sigma_line of the variable broad emission…

Vertical broad-line region structure in nearby active galactic nuclei

Context. Broad emission lines are emitted in the surroundings of supermassive black holes in the centers of active galactic nuclei (AGN). This region is spatially not resolved. Aims. We intend to get

Broad-line region structure and kinematics in the radio galaxy 3C 120

Broad emission lines originate in the surroundings of supermassive black holes in the centers of active galactic nuclei (AGN). One method to investigate the extent, structure, and kinematics of the

Stratified disc wind models for the AGN broad-line region: ultraviolet, optical, and X-ray properties

The origin, geometry, and kinematics of the broad-line region (BLR) gas in quasars and active galactic nuclei (AGN) are uncertain. We demonstrate that clumpy biconical disc winds illuminated by an

Intermediate-line Emission in AGNs: The Effect of Prescription of the Gas Density

The requirement of an intermediate-line component in the recently observed spectra of several active galactic nuclei (AGNs) points to the possible existence of a physically separate region between

Evolution of broad-line emission from active galactic nuclei

Apart from viewing-dependent obscuration, intrinsic broad-line emission from active galactic nuclei (AGN) follows an evolutionary sequence: type 1 → 1.2/1.5 → 1.8/1.9 → 2a s the accretion rate on to

The reverberation signatures of rotating disc winds in active galactic nuclei

The broad emission lines (BELs) in active galactic nuclei (AGNs) respond to ionizing continuum variations. The time and velocity dependence of their response depends on the structure of the

Broad-line region structure and line profile variations in the changing look AGN HE 1136-2304

Aims. A strong X-ray outburst was detected in HE 1136-2304 in 2014. Accompanying optical spectra revealed that the spectral type has changed from a nearly Seyfert 2 type (1.95), classified by spectra

ON THE VIRIALIZATION OF DISK WINDS: IMPLICATIONS FOR THE BLACK HOLE MASS ESTIMATES IN ACTIVE GALACTIC NUCLEI

Estimating the mass of a supermassive black hole in an active galactic nucleus usually relies on the assumption that the broad line region (BLR) is virialized. However, this assumption seems to be

REVERBERATION AND PHOTOIONIZATION ESTIMATES OF THE BROAD-LINE REGION RADIUS IN LOW-z QUASARS

Black hole mass estimation in quasars, especially at high redshift, involves the use of single-epoch spectra with signal-to-noise ratio and resolution that permit accurate measurement of the width of

A High-quality Velocity-delay Map of the Broad-line Region in NGC 5548

NGC 5548 has been well spectroscopically monitored for reverberation mapping of the central kinematics by 19 campaigns. Using the maximum entropy method in this Letter, we build up a high-quality

Broad-line active galactic nuclei rotate faster than narrow-line ones

A fundamental relation is reported between the observed emission linewidth full-width at half-maximum (FWHM) and the emission line shape FWHM/σline in AGN spectra that infer that the predominant motion in the broad-line regions is Keplerian rotation in combination with turbulence.

Photoionization of Disk Winds

The disk-wind model suggests that the broad emission lines of a quasar are emitted from the surface of the accretion disk feeding the central black hole. In this paper, we assume that a line-driven
