We discuss properties of thermal and hybrid (thermal/non-thermal) electron-positron plasmas in the pair and energy equilibria. Various accretion disc-corona models, recently proposed to explain properties of galactic as well as extragalactic accreting black holes, are confronted with the observed broad-band X-ray and gamma-ray spectra.

X-RAY EMISSION FROM TRANSIENT JET MODEL IN BLACK HOLE BINARIES

While the non-thermal radio through at least near-infrared emission in the hard state in X-ray binaries (XRBs) is known to originate in jets, the source of the non-thermal X-ray component is still

A model for optical/X-ray correlation in black hole X-ray binaries

(CCF), with an anti-correlation preceding positive correlation. Similar CCFs were found in two neutron star X-ray binaries, Sco X-1 and Cyg X-2. We propose a novel model capable of explaining timing

A MODEL FOR EMISSION FROM JETS IN X-RAY BINARIES: CONSEQUENCES OF A SINGLE ACCELERATION EPISODE

There is strong evidence for powerful jets in the low/hard state of black hole X-ray binaries (BHXRBs). Here, we present a model in which electrons are accelerated once at the base of the jet, and

EFFECTS OF SPIN ON HIGH-ENERGY RADIATION FROM ACCRETING BLACK HOLES

Observations of jets in X-ray binaries show a correlation between radio power and black hole spin. This correlation, if confirmed, points toward the idea that relativistic jets may be powered by the

X-ray timing and spectral observations of galactic black hole candidate XTE J1550-564 during outburst

Soft X-ray transients (SXTs), a sub-class of low-mass X-ray binaries (LMXBs), provide a unique opportunity to test General Relativity and to probe fundamental physics under conditions terrestrially

RAY ENERGY AND POWER SPECTRA OF SEYFERT 1 AND NARROW LINE SEYFERT 1 GALAXIES : COMPARISON TO BLACK HOLE BINARIES

I review observational data on X–ray energy spectra and variability of Seyfert 1 and Narrow Line Seyfert 1 galaxies, and compare them to black hole binary (BHB) systems. There seems to be greater

Models for X-ray Emission from Radio Quiet AGNs

The current status of understanding of the X-ray emission from Seyfert galaxies involves thermal Comptonization of soft photons by mildrelativistic electrons and positrons. I review observational and

On the hard X-ray emission mechanism of active galactic nuclei sources

Within the framework of unsaturated Compton disk accretion onto a supermassive black hole as a model for power-law active-galactic-nuclei X-ray sources (as opposed to the synchro-Compton model), the

X-Ray Spectra from Two-Phase Accretion Disks

A model for the X-ray emission from radio-quiet active galactic nuclei (AGNs) is considered. The X-rays are produced via inverse Compton (IC) emission in a hot corona embedding a colder accretion

Models of X-ray and gamma-ray emission from Seyfert galaxies

X-ray and gamma-ray observations of Seyfert 1 galaxies are briefly reviewed. Both thermal and non-thermal model for X-ray and gamma-ray emission are discussed. Particular attention is given to

A two-phase model for the X-ray emission from Seyfert galaxies

A two-phase accretion disk model is considered. A substantial fraction, f, of the gravitational power is assumed to be dissipated via buoyancy and reconnection of magnetic fields in a hot tenuous

Models of X-ray and γ-ray emission from Seyfert galaxies.

X-ray and γ-ray observations of Seyfert 1 galaxies are briefly reviewed. Both thermal and nonthermal model for X-ray and γ-ray emission are discussed. Particular attention is given to various

Structure of thermal pair clouds around gamma-ray-emitting black holes

Using certain simplifying assumptions, the general structure of a quasi-spherical thermal pair-balanced cloud surrounding an accreting black hole is derived from first principles. Pair-dominated hot

Electron Acceleration and the Production of Nonthermal Electron Distributions in Accretion Disk Coronae

We consider electron acceleration by obliquely propagating fast-mode waves in magnetically dominated accretion disk coronae. For low coronal plasma densities, acceleration can exceed Coulomb drag at

On re-acceleration, pairs and the high-energy spectrum of AGN and Galactic black hole candidates

OSSE on CGRO and SIGMA on GRANAT have recently shown that the hard X-ray spectra of several Seyfert AGN are steep like the spectra from Galactic black hole candidates. This suggests that the X-rays
