UNLABELLED Enamel cells handle large amounts of calcium, particularly during the developmental phase (termed maturation) when dental enamel is hypermineralized. The extent of intracellular calcium burden, and the nature of calcium homeostasis machinery used to accommodate it, are largely unknown.
